Scientists worried about new ice age 
7 Feb 08 - The latest 11-year sunspot cycle has been disturbingly quiet. This could signal the beginning of what is known as a Maunder Minimum, an event that occurs every couple of centuries and can last as long as a century. The last such occurrence, known as The Little Ice Age, lead to massive crop failures, famine and death in Northern Europe.
