Media Heighten Global Warming Hysteria

By Philip V. Brennan - 5 Feb 08 - The media  prefers to talk about "the climate"
and castigate anybody who has the effrontery to dismiss the whole climate change

About the same latitude as Havana - Reader Kenneth Lund says that Hong Kong is actually beneath the Tropic of Cancer, about the same latitude or slightly north of Havana. So you could say that the snow near Hong Kong is like having snow in Key West! Truly mind boggling!

About the same latitude as Miami, Florida
A reader from Ireland  wrote to complain about the picture of the snow-covered palm trees in China (below), and  to remind me that palm trees grow in areas that get snow.

I agree. Remember, however, that one of the worst-hit cities is southern Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province that borders Hong Kong - about the same latitude as Miami, Florida.

This is not an area built or equipped to handle snow.
This is why more than 100,000 homes have collapsed under the weight of the snow.
This is why the crops have been wrecked.

Snow-covered palm trees
Hey Robert,

I'm not one to get too excited about photos in the news but this one had
something rather unusual. It is a photo from a CNN news story about the
snow in China. If you aren't paying close attention this picture looks pretty normal. But if you look a bit closer you'll see the trees in the background appear to be palm trees. These are palms right?
Thanks to Dan Hammer for this note and photo
