Poll: Far fewer Americans believe in global warming
Only 36% say warming man-made, down from 47% last year

22 Oct 09 –  A new poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds a sharp decline in the number of Americans who see solid evidence that global temperatures are rising, says this article in the Wall Street Journal. Only 35% of respondents see global warming as a very serious problem, down from 44% in April 2008.

The survey also found that only 36% of Americans say global temperatures are rising as a result of human activity, down from 47% last year.

Unfortunately, more than half (55%) say they haven’t heard about so-called “cap and trade” legislation being considered in Congress. (“Sen. John Kerry says he doesn’t know what ‘cap and trade’ means, either,” says the article, written by Stephen Power.)

The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works is scheduled to hold hearings next week on legislation that calls for cutting U.S. emissions 20 percent beneath 2005 levels by 2020.

 “The more Americans learn about cap-and-trade, the more they oppose cap-and-trade,” says Sen. James Inhofe (R., Okla.), a longtime skeptic of climate-change warnings.

        I hope that I’ve helped contribute to people’s awareness of the global
        warming lies. Giving credit where credit is due, however, a few thousand
        record low temperatures around the country – combined with record
        early snowstorms across the Midwest – may also have contributed a tad.
