Predicted sea-level rise slashed in half

14  May 09 - The global sea level will less than 10 feet if the West Antarctic ice sheet collapses - only about half the previously predicted rise.

             Notice that little word “if.”

Researchers led by Jonathan L. Bamber of the University of Bristol in Britain reported their newly revised figures yesterday in the journal Science.

“However, they add, the maximum increase is expected along the East and West Coasts of the United States, where the water could rise as much as 25 percent more than in other regions.”

             The water could rise 25% more in some locations than others!!?

             Whatever happened to water seeking its own level? Whatever
             happened to basic physics? As reader Tom Meyer puts it, “They
             change as they go, because they really don`t know! Who knows,
             it may take 500 years?”

            (Or more likely, if we keep having record snowstorms, sea levels
            will go down.)
